Aluminum anode kit for Volvo Penta IPS 23172846
Aluminum anode kit for Volvo Penta IPS 23172846
This sacrificial anode reduces galvanic corrosion on electrically conductive components in the water.
It is mounted on the underwater part, trim cylinder, heat exchanger or shaft. If the anode is removed too much, the protective effect is reduced and the base material can be attacked.
Component classification: aluminum sacrificial anode / corrosion protection anode
System function: galvanic corrosion protection on underwater or engine components
Compatible manufacturers: Volvo Penta
Compatible models: IPS-A, IPS-B, IPS-C, IPS-D, IPS-E, IPS-F, IPS10-A
Reference numbers:
- VOLVO PENTA: 23172846

FAQ
What exactly is the task / function of the component?
The sacrificial anode sacrifices itself electrochemically to protect metal parts in the water that are at risk of corrosion from galvanic attack. Its effectiveness depends on electrical contact, correct material and sufficient free surface.
How do you recognize a defect / typical symptoms?
A defect in the true sense of the word is the wear and tear caused by consumption or an electrically insulated, overpainted or loosely mounted anode. Severe material degradation of the anode or traces of corrosion on neighboring components are then visible.
How do you check / test the component?
Residual mass, tight fit, bare contact surfaces and, if necessary, electrical continuity to the protected structure are checked. Paint, oxide deposits or growth on the contact surface significantly reduce the protective effect.
When should it be replaced?
The anode should typically be replaced at around half the material loss or earlier if it is loose and unevenly worn. The interval depends heavily on the type of water, the time it has been in place and external currents.
How do you check compatibility?
The OEM number, choice of material for fresh, brackish or salt water, shape, hole spacing, contact surface and installation location must be checked. The wrong anode material can lose its protective effect or be used up unnecessarily quickly.
