Volvo Penta Duoprop A propeller
The Volvo Penta Duoprop A series consists of counter-rotating propellers mounted one behind the other on a twin propeller shaft. A larger front propeller generates the main thrust, while the smaller rear propeller uses the current to generate additional thrust.
This system reduces turbulence behind the first propeller and improves the efficiency of power transmission.
Technical features
Typical features of the Duoprop A series:
-
Aluminum propeller set
-
counter-rotating propellers
-
3-blade front propeller
-
4-blade rear propeller
-
Propeller sets in coordinated sizes
The size designations typically range from A0 to A10, with each size representing a matched combination of front and rear propellers.
Compatible Volvo Penta drives
Duoprop A propellers are used on various Aquamatic sterndrives, e.g:
-
Volvo Penta 280-DP
-
Volvo Penta 290-DP
-
Volvo Penta DP-A
-
Volvo Penta DP-B
-
Volvo Penta DP-C
-
Volvo Penta DP-D
-
Volvo Penta DP-E
Functional principle
Two counter-rotating propellers reduce the torque effect. The boat runs more stable straight ahead, accelerates faster and achieves higher efficiency than with a single propeller. Acceleration and speed can be higher, while fuel consumption is reduced.
The selection is made using the Volvo Penta size designation (e.g. A4, A5, A6), as the front and rear propellers are always used as a matched pair.
