Electrical fuses are essential protective components in the on-board electrical system of a Mercruiser engine. They interrupt the flow of current in the event of an overload or short circuit before cables or devices are damaged. In marine applications in particular, this prevents electrical fires, damage to on-board equipment and supply failures.

Types of fuses in the Mercruiser on-board electrical system
Mercruiser fuses can be available in different variants in the store:

Fuses (blade/midi/ANL types) - All-round protection for DC circuits

Selection by reference number & engine type
The most reliable way to identify a Mercruiser fuse is by the OEM reference number of the original part. Since fuses vary in amperage rating, design and voltage, this information is critical for proper function.

Determine OEM reference number on old part or parts catalog

Check motor type, year of manufacture and voltage system

Select fuse type and ampere rating accordingly
Make sure you always use the same ampere rating, as values that are too high cancel the protection and values that are too low can lead to frequent "blowing".
