Ignition, electrics and controls for Suzuki outboard engines
The electrical system of an outboard engine comprises several assemblies that are responsible for starting, ignition, power supply and engine control. These include ignition components, generator components and electronic control units.
Ignition system in the Suzuki outboard engine
The ignition system generates the spark that ignites the fuel-air mixture in the cylinder. Modern Suzuki outboard engines use electronic ignition systems with control via an engine control unit (ECM). Sensors supply operating data to the ECM, which calculates the optimum ignition timing and controls the ignition coils.
The ignition coil generates a high voltage from the on-board voltage, which is conducted to the spark plug via the ignition cable. This is where the ignition spark for combustion in the engine is generated.
