Seawater pumps for OMC boat engines

The seawater pump is one of the most important components in the cooling system of a boat engine. It ensures that water is drawn in from the surrounding water and fed through the engine to dissipate the heat generated during operation. Without a functioning cooling system, the engine can overheat and be damaged within a short time.

In many marine engines, the seawater pump works with a so-called impeller system, in which a flexible impeller pumps the water through the cooling system.

Structure of a seawater pump

A typical seawater pump consists of several components that work together to ensure a constant flow of cooling water. The most important components include

  • Drive shaft and bearings

When the impeller rotates, water is sucked in and transported through the engine before it exits again via the exhaust system or the outlet.
