Lifepo4 rechargeable batteries | The lightweight alternative with an extreme number of cycles

A LifePo4 battery is cheaper than a lead-acid battery. A bold statement. After all, conventional lead batteries cost only 1/3 as much as a LifePo4 battery. A comparative calculation:

Let's first compare the usable capacity of lithium batteries with that of lead batteries. Lead-acid/AGM/gel batteries are all based on the same lead technology and we therefore usually refer to them collectively as "lead batteries" in this article. With a lithium iron phosphate battery with 100Ah, this capacity can be used 100% of the time, approximately 3000 times. With a 100Ah high-quality AGM battery, only 50% of the nominal capacity, in this case 50Ah, can be used if this battery is to last for approx. 800 cycles. And what you need to know is that this AGM battery only achieves the 800 cycles if it is recharged to the end-of-charge voltage immediately after discharge. This means that you need a 220Ah lead-acid battery to have the same capacity as a 100Ah lithium battery, as only 50% of the lead-acid battery capacity can be used to protect the battery.
