FAQ

What exactly is the task / function of the component?
The flat gasket seals two static sealing surfaces against each other and prevents oil, water, fuel or exhaust gas from escaping. The material thickness and surface pressure must match the connection.

How do you recognize a defect / typical symptoms?
Defects are indicated by leakage, loss of pressure, traces of dirt or salt at the joint or loss of function of the affected assembly. The causes are usually loss of setting, hardening, assembly damage or distorted mating surfaces.

How do you check / test the component?
The sealing surfaces are checked for evenness, scoring, corrosion and old sealant residue; a leak test is then carried out with the assembly fitted. The seal itself must not show any pinch fractures, breakouts or delamination.

When should it be replaced?
Flat gaskets should always be replaced as soon as the connection has been opened or the first leakage occurs. Reuse is rarely technically resilient and is therefore usually not recommended.

How do you check compatibility?
The OEM number, exact installation point, contour, hole pattern, material and thickness are important. Even small deviations in channels, webs or screw holes can negate the sealing effect.
