What exactly is the task / function of the component?
The exhaust component guides exhaust gas and, depending on the version, cooling water safely from the engine into the downstream exhaust tract. It is subject to high thermal and corrosive loads and also influences the engine's back pressure and water safety.

How can you recognize a defect / typical symptoms?
Defects are indicated by exhaust gas leakage, traces of rust, loss of cooling water, internal corrosion, increased surface temperatures or, in extreme cases, water ingress into the engine. Cracking and internal wall erosion are typical damage mechanisms.

How do you inspect / test the component?
External and internal corrosion, sealing surfaces, wall thickness, water channels and tightness are tested using a pressure or push-off test. It is particularly important to check for internal rust penetration and free movement of the cooling water flow.

When should it be replaced?
The component should be replaced if it is cracked, rusted through, internally detached or at any connection between the water and exhaust sides. Depending on the age and findings, a preventive replacement is also advisable for salt water-operated systems.

How do you check compatibility?
The OEM number, motor side or bank, connection diagram, hose diameter, sensor or thread positions and the exact wet or dry design must be compared. The height, angle and seal variant must also be correct.
