Function of trim tabs on the boat hull

Trim tabs are movable plates at the stern below the waterline. By lowering or raising the individual flaps, the hydrodynamic buoyancy is changed in a targeted manner. This allows

  • lower or raise the bow

  • compensate for lateral tilt (heeling)

  • shorten the planing phase

  • optimize the water resistance

They have a direct effect on the hull position - independent of the drive trim.

Flaps that are too small are not effective enough, flaps that are too large can cause oversteer. Coordinated dimensioning is crucial for effective position control.


Installation position & installation instructions

For optimum function:

  • Installation at the outermost stern area below the waterline

  • Parallel alignment to the waterline

  • Fixed screw connection with corrosion-resistant materials

  • Careful sealing against water ingress

Symmetrical positioning of both flaps is essential for an even effect.


Control & operation

Operation is via:

  • Switch or rocker switch on the control panel

  • Electric or hydraulic control modules

  • Optionally with position indicator

The adjustment should be carried out gradually during the journey in order to find the optimum water position.
