Impeller for Mercury and Mariner outboard engines
The impeller is part of the water pump in the underwater section of an outboard engine. The flexible impeller is rotated via the drive shaft and pumps cooling water through the engine. This keeps the operating temperature stable.
With increasing operating time, the rubber material loses elasticity. Worn or damaged blades reduce the delivery capacity of the water pump and can lead to insufficient engine cooling.
Maintenance and replacement
The impeller is one of the typical wearing parts of an outboard motor. Regular replacement is part of engine maintenance. It is replaced in the water pump housing of the underwater part.
Difference between impeller and impeller kit
A single impeller only replaces the impeller of the water pump.
An impeller kit contains additional components such as
-
Seals
-
Housing plates
-
O-rings
-
Other water pump parts
Suitable impellers for Mercury / Mariner
The right impeller design depends on several factors:
-
Engine power (HP)
-
Engine series
-
Year of manufacture
-
Water pump type
There are different impeller sizes and designs for Mercury and Mariner outboard engines.
